The Swedish Consumer Agency works to ensure that:
businesses comply with consumer-protection legislation;
goods and services are safe to use;
consumers know and exercise their rights; and
households receive support to manage their finances.
This is how the Swedish Consumer Agency is governed
The Swedish Consumer Agency’s assignments and areas of responsibility are regulated in acts and ordinances passed by the Riksdag and the Government.
The Consumer Ombudsman
The Swedish Consumer Agency is led by a director-general, who is also the Consumer Ombudsman. The Consumer Ombudsman ensures that businesses comply with consumer-protection regulations, including by bringing legal actions before the courts.
Independent guidance for consumers
The Swedish Consumer Agency offers guidance to consumers in Swedish and English. We answer questions about the purchase of goods and services. We can also refer you to experts at other government agencies, consumer-advice bureaus or municipal consumer advisors.
Our advisors can also refer you to ECC Sweden, part of the European Consumer Centres Network, where you can obtain advice if you have made a purchase from another Member State, the United Kingdom, Iceland or Norway.
